1997 Nissan Sentra GXE
Posted Tuesday, December 18, 2007

The Nissan Sentra has been around for ages, and we felt that it would be nice to test drive an older one to see how they are still holding up. The answer is that after 10 years and 120,000 miles they are holding up as well as could be expected. They still aren't any fun. ...

F** Front Wheel Drives!
Posted Tuesday, October 23, 2007

FUN FRONT WHEEL DRIVES (I bet you weren't thinking FUN): Allen: Let me just preface this by saying I'm not a big fan of front wheel drive cars. This took quite a bit off internal fortitude to actually admit that there are a few front wheel drive cars that I actually like. Honestly, just two out of the many front wheel drive cars I have driven. Granted, there are probably others that are just as fun to drive as these but these I have driven and can vouch for. Also, these are the only one I have actually really, and I mean really, enjoyed driving. The first is, as you can tell from the picture, the Mini Cooper (S model shown.). This is like driving a go-kart. You look in the direction you want to go and it goes there. The one I drove wasn't even the S model so I can only...

The Man Sedan (part Austin)
Posted Monday, November 26, 2007

So I was reading Allen's post on "manly sedans" and the same thought kept popping into my mind, "Why are sedans so UNmanly?"I am a man and I think that sedans are great cars simply because they are more functional than a coupe. They can hold friends or family members, they are good for hauling stuff, and with a little creativity and sometimes help from a nice manufacturer, you can have LOADS of fun in them. I personally drive a 1997 Nissan Sentra. It is not a good sedan. It has 1.6 liters of dull permeating its bright green exterior. It is not a fun drive. While it is reliable, Allen was writing about was the funnest, most entertaining sedans, and its a hard sell. Generally speaking sedans are sold for their function, or their class, but not so much for their character. If...

Cars with Heritage - The Chevy Corvette
Posted Tuesday, December 18, 2007

There is not a vehicle that I can think of that is more iconic then the Chevy Corvette. When I look at a Corvette I see the red, white and blue. The car symbolizes American history almost as much as the Statue of Liberty and is recognized through out the world. It is an engineering masterpiece that General Motors spares no expense on, and it is truly one of best vehicles available for the price. I really have never met a person who didn't know what the Corvette was or looked like. I've known about it since I was five years old, because my first Hot Wheels cars were a '76 Sting Ray Corvette and an '87 Corvette, and I loved both of those little cars. The Corvette was first release in 1953 and was a far cry from the performance driven car of today. It came equiped with a...

My Grown-Up Christmas List
Posted Monday, December 24, 2007

I was thinking on my way to work about what I would like to have if money was never an issue. Since it is the season for gifts we figured Austin and would write our Christmas lists out and explain why we want what we want. I believe most of the stuff on my list pertains to vehicles, speed or various things having to do with elements of this site. Allen: 1. A Red Rider Double Pump Action BB gun. Why? Duh, haven't you seen A Christmas Story? Besides I can shoot out tires on Austin's Sentra. And no, won't shoot my eye out. (Austin: I grew up with one of these. Good luck killing a bird with it. It's hard.) I'm not trying to kill a bird, just shoot out your tires... 2. This one is a triple whammy. A monster truck, Lotus Exige, and Toyota Prius. The Toyota Prius is for my sister...

Great Gas Milage and Performance In One Car?
Posted Wednesday, June 11, 2008

The questions is can you have your cake and eat it, too? I love the idea of fast sports cars that handle well and also serve as a decent daily driver. However, as I mentioned before in the last article, gas prices are on the rise and are currently over $4.00 a gallon with no relief in sight. Where does that leave the driving enthusiast?  Bored... and annoyed (At least I am.) You can't take that leisurely trip up north or to your favorite mountain pass on the weekend, you have to save that precious fuel for getting yourself to work and back. So what is the solution? Carpool if you can, ride a bicycle if you live close enough, or buy a more economical ride. I never want to recommend that people trade in their existing car for the sole reason of poor gas mileage. If there is nothing...

How to Replace a Constant Velocity (C.V.) Boot
Posted Thursday, January 29, 2009

The C.V boot on Austin's Sentra tore and he got quoted about three hundred buck-a-roos to replace it.  As I am the mechanic of the family that means I get to do it in my garage for the price of beer.  It's a fair trade... Estimated Time: Two Beers (about 1 hour) Skill Level: Some mechanical aptitude and tools will definitely help. 1.  Crack open a beer. 2. Raise the front of the vehicle using a jack and support the vehicle with jack stands. 2.  Remove the appropriate wheel.  The driver side outer boot was torn so that was the side of the car we took the wheel off of. 3.  Remove the cotter pin from the axle nut. 4.  Remove the cotter pin for the lower ball joint securing the ball joint nut in place.  Take a swig of beer.  The beer that night was Four Peaks...

2009 Acura TL
Posted Wednesday, March 4, 2009

Only last year the Acura TL was one of my favorite cars visually and it was placed at the top of my list for what manufactures should strive for when designing a sedan.  But recently that all changed.  I remember when I first spotted the 2009 Acura TL.  I was driving home from work and I saw one pulling out of the LifeTime Fitness.   It caught my attention so badly I nearly rear ended a VW bug. "What the fu-gly!"  I blurt out loud and quickly glanced around out of my top down Miata to make sure no one noticed that I was talking to myself.  "What the Heck is that and who was dumb enough to make a sedan that ugly?"  The car pulled out into the lane in front of me and I manage a glimpse at its badging. "THE TL!.. THE ACURA TL!?"  I screamed.  The shock was over whelming...
